Transfer From Circuit Quarterly Board to Circuit Exec.
Castlederg Circuit – History in the making
On Thursday 2nd December 2004 Castlederg Methodist Circuit made history. The Circuit Leaders met as a Quarterly Board for the very last time. The Quarterly Board met at 7:30 pm to conduct the Circuit business and hand the business of the Circuit over to the newly formed Circuit Executive. Rev Ewing pointed out to leaders the significance of this last meeting. He thanked leaders who willingly stepped aside to allow new people into positions of leadership. The business of this meeting was concluded in record time and members adjourned to a specially arranged Congregational gathering were members of the Circuit attended. Special invitations had gone out to past members who served on Quarterly Boards of yesteryear.
The Rev Ewing welcomed everyone and especially leaders who had served in the past. He said that “this was an historic night in the history of Castlederg Methodist Circuit. We are here to mark the end of the Quarterly Board and to give thanks to God for and pay tribute to all Leaders who served diligently and faithfully over the years”. The meeting opened with prayer and the singing of Now thank we all our God.
The District Superintendent Rev Harold Agnew was unable to attend owing to a prior engagement. He sent greetings which were read out at the meeting, “Tonight for you in the life of your circuit marks the end of one journey and the beginning of a new one in regard to the way you do business in the life of the church…I want to congratulate the Castlederg circuit on coming thus far in this journey of change…I wish you all every blessing as you endeavour to build the Kingdom of God in these challenging days”

The Rev Ian Henderson Superintendent minister on the Donegal, Ballintra and Inver Circuit was the Circuits special guest. He too congratulated the Circuit on their brave and courageous step. He referred to the adventure that was before us as we travelled along the road of Connexions. He gave a very challenging and frank address based on Eph. 4:1-16 where the Apostle Paul outlines the responsibilities and behaviour of Church. His comments were very poignant indeed and everyone was left in no doubt as to their responsibilities as part of Christ’s Church.
There then followed a presentation of Footprints for Men and Footprints for Women respectively made by the Rev Ewing and the Rev Henderson to leaders who served on the Quarterly Board in the past and present. The Rev Ewing closed in prayer and the meeting concluded with the singing of All praise to our redeeming Lord. No Methodist gathering is complete without a cup of tea and members continued in fellowship as they enjoyed a wonderful supper provided by the ladies of the Circuit.
